Awari
Furthering students' careers with help from world-class mentors
Awari is a career development platform where mentors spend a few hours per week tutoring people who are looking to take the next step in their careers.

With new updates to the platform, processes that used to take a lot of man hours are now done with a few simple clicks, and students are able to interact with more industry professionals.

Problem
Solution
The Customer Success team used to be responsible for scheduling mentorships for students; this was not a scalable operation
Scheduling is now automated through the platform and students can choose mentors and timeslots by themselves, and reschedule if there are any unforeseen issues
Students had the same mentor throughout their course cohort and mentorships were focused only on course work
Students can now choose many different professionals to hear from and interact with, offering them greater perspective on the differing aspects of their desired workplace
Event links had to be created by the mentor
Links are now automatically created when a session is scheduled
Mentors had to update the Customer Success team on any changes to their schedule; sometimes availability remained outdated and mentorships got scheduled at times Mentors weren't available
Mentors are now offered full access to the platform with their own exclusive features, including being able to update their schedule, skills, bio, list of companies they've been at, preferred payment method, and more

Editing Your Mentor Profile
Mentors use the platform to update their profiles with detailed information—skills, current position, company, and a brief bio—to improve matching with students seeking specific expertise. This information appears on a mentor card, visible on both the website and the platform.

Updating Mentor Availability
Mentors previously had to notify Customer Success of schedule changes, often resulting in outdated availability and missed mentorships. Early versions of the Availability page required mentors to manually input each slot, including breaks, making updates tedious. To simplify, many mentors only listed always-available times, reducing student options.

Version 2.0
Version 2.0 was more streamlined, focusing solely on time availability by moving subject preferences to the profile's skills section. Users simply selected available days and times (morning, afternoon, or evening), reducing input to a few clicks. We also implemented automatic saving for any changes.

Version 2.1
Version 2.1 connects mentors' Google Calendars to the platform, allowing them to set availability for weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends. This update automates scheduling and prevents conflicts, streamlining mentor searches for students.

Mentor Payments
Awari’s automated platform now tracks sessions and payments, allowing mentors to verify details and report issues. Payments are made through PIX, Brazil’s instant payment system, enabling mentors to receive funds instantly by adding or updating their PIX key.

Scheduling a mentorship session
Students can now schedule mentor calls directly by browsing names, skills, or availability. With enough credits or a free session, they receive a confirmation email and an event card on the homepage, allowing access, rescheduling, or cancellation up to 10 minutes before the call.

The credits system
I designed a gamified yet professional credits system using a coin with the Awari logo. Credits are used for mentorship and classes, with membership covering two 8-month cohorts. Users can easily buy more or track spending via the coin icon on their Dashboard.

Giving feedback
Feedback is crucial for Awari’s growth. After each mentorship session, students are prompted to rate the experience and provide comments. This has resulted in valuable testimonials that are featured on the website and play a key role in user acquisition.
